Coast to Coast cycle ride raises nearly £600 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Linda Brown and her son, Daniel, completed their 4 day 136-mile journey from Whitehaven to Sunderland in April. The story behind the trip can be read here and Linda's message to all of her generous sponsors follows below:

A big thank you to all those who supported me on the Coast to Coast cycle ride that I completed in April. I raised £585.50 and feel immensely proud that, with your help, I was able to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

I had made up a promotional display in Thornton Steward Village Institute and was amazed that walkers who stopped for refreshment so generously contributed to my fund - even though they didn’t know me!

The actual cycle ride was fantastic and my son proved to be the ideal companion. Despite some wet and extreme conditions at the highest section of the route we were still smiling at the end of the day!

Many thanks to Mark Johnston who sponsored us. He gave us cycling shirts and wind shirts which we wore every day. We are all familiar with his logo: the sight of those wings and “always trying” ahead of me on my son’s back gave me the drive and inspiration that I needed when the “going got tough” and the hills got steeper!

One month later and I cannot believe that we were so lucky; no punctures, no saddle sores nor any mechanical problems. Where to next? Everyone says that I should do another long distance challenge - but on my horse this time!! Not so sure about that - she likes her home comforts too much and my bike does what it is told all of the time!

My son was pondering on the next adventure the very evening that we arrived home - he has his mind set now on Applecross in Western Scotland. Doesn’t that feature the most notorious hill climb in Britain? Now I know a fabulous route in Norfolk...
